Vol. 95 No. 2

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Prices of Turkeys.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he can state with reference to turkeys (a) the price which will be paid for them this (Christmas) season in England; (b) the price which was paid in the corresponding period last year; and (c) the price which will be paid in Eire this season for them.

The price payable this season by English importers of turkeys from this country is the same as was in operation last year, viz., 2/7 per lb. dead weight. It is anticipated that the price payable to producers in Eire this season will average about 1/10 per lb. live weight.

Will the Minister say if the price paid is lower than the price paid last year; and, if so, why it is so?

I explained that very fully in answer to a question some time ago. If the Deputy would look up the Official Reports for the 20th September, he will see that I explained why the price this year is lower than that of last year.
