Vol. 95 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork City Bus Services.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will now take any necessary steps to secure the erection of bus stops and shelters in Cork City.

As regards the erection of bus stops, the Cork City Manager and Town Clerk invited tenders in 1940 for the supply of the necessary signs and markings. The prices quoted in 1940 were regarded as excessive and none of the tenders received was acceptable. When quotations were again sought in 1941, no tender was received. No further action is proposed at present. It is unlikely that the necessary materials will be obtainable until after the emergency.

The Minister has no power in regard to the provision of shelters.

May I suggest, as the Minister for Industry and Commerce indicated that we would be pushing an open door in this matter, that tenders should be asked for again, and I will guarantee that tenders will be submitted and that the necessary materials can be obtained?

I suggest that the Deputy might make his representations through the Cork Corporation.

The Cork Corporation have already made representations to the Department.
