Vol. 95 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mental Hospital Workers.

Mr. Corish

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if it is his intention to introduce legislation to amend the 1909 Act, relating to mental hospital workers, with a view to the improvement of their working conditions generally.

As I stated in reply to a question by Deputy Martin O'Sullivan on the 3rd May last the proposed Bill will not deal with rates of pay and conditions of service. Working conditions of mental hospital employees are matters which may be determined under the provisions of the Local Government Act, 1941. In the new Mental Treatment Bill it is proposed to repeal the Asylum Officers Superannuation Act, 1909, and to provide a new superannuation code.
