Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Foot-and-Mouth Disease.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state, with reference to the last outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (a) the total amount of compensation withheld by him, (b) the number of individual cases involved where he exercised his powers under sub-section (7) of Section 20 of the Diseases of Animals (Ireland) Act, 1894, and if he will say whether subsection (7) of Section 20 was operated against any individual who had not been prosecuted under the Act.

The total amount of compensation withheld in respect of animals slaughtered during the last outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease was £3,120 2s. 6d. The number of owners concerned was 22, all of whom, with one exception, were prosecuted.
