Vol. 95 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Wheat.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will authorise the millers to pay 60/- per barrel (of 20 stone) for wheat bushelling over 62 lbs., and if he is aware that this wheat is passed on from millers to seedsmen at an enhanced price, in which the grower should share.

The answer to both parts of the question is in the negative.

It is really too bad that for wheat which is bushelling 62, 63, 64 and 65 lbs. the men who are growing it cannot get anything extra. The millers are collaring it, and are selling it at enhanced prices in other parts of the country. It is very unfair.

I said in my reply that "The answer to both parts of the question is in the negative." That includes the allegation that the millers are getting enhanced prices.

The growers are not.

The millers are not selling it at enhanced prices.

Why not give more for wheat that is bushelling 62, 63, 64 and 65 lbs.?
