Vol. 95 No. 11

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Portlaoighise Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will cause inquiries to be made concerning the failure of the Portlaoighise Town Commissioners and the County Manager to provide an extension of the town water supply for the 27 families living on Ridge Road, Portlaoighise, County Laoighis; if he can state the estimated cost for carrying out this essential work and whether any proposals were submitted to his Department concerning it during the past few years.

The Portlaoighise Town Commissioners are not a sanitary authority under the Public Health Acts and would not therefore possess the requisite powers for supplying their districts with a water supply. A proposal for the extension of the Portlaoighise water supply to serve residents on Ridge Road was submitted to my Department in March, 1938, by the former Laoighis Board of Health. The scheme was approved and was completed in September, 1940, at a cost of £353 approximately. No representations in the matter have since been made to my Department.
