Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Labourers' Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will furnish a statement giving (a) particulars of the amount allocated for the repair of labourers' cottages for the year ending March 31st, 1945, for (1) Laoighis and (2) Offaly; (b) the number of cottages included for repair in each county; (c) the number actually repaired up to December 31st, 1944; and (d) the number waiting to be repaired in each county on the last-mentioned date.

The information has been prepared in the form of a mainly tabular statement, which will be circulated in the Official Report.

The following table gives the information so far as available:—

Laoighis County.

(a) A short term loan of £10,000 was raised in 1944 to defray cost of repairs and a temporary engineer has been appointed to deal exclusively with cottage repairs.

(b) The number of cottages included for repair for year ending 31st March, 1945—200.

(c) The number of cottages repaired up to 31st December, 1944—170.

(d) The number of cottages awaiting to be repaired on the 31st December, 1944—500.

Offaly County.

(a) A sum of £6,000 has been allocated for repairs for year ending 31st March, 1945.

(b) The number of cottages included for repair for year ending 31st March, 1945—522.

(c) The number of cottages repaired up to 31st December, 1944—322.

(d) The number of cottages awaiting to be repaired on the 31st December, 1944, and not included in (b)— 162.
