Vol. 95 No. 11

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Egg Exports.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (a) the number of eggs exported from Éire during each of the following months:—October, November and December, 1944; (b) the price paid for these eggs, per dozen, by the British Ministry of Food and the price paid to the Irish producer; and (c) the amount of the turkey levy fund that was required to subsidise these egg exports (if any).

Exports of eggs during the months October, November and December were 34,818, 1,044 and 113 great hundreds, respectively. The price to be ultimately received for exported eggs is related to the total quantity exported in the year ending 31st instant, and cannot therefore be yet determined. Since the end of August the prices payable to egg exporters have been such as to enable the producer to be paid an average of 2/6 per dozen. Until the price for eggs is determined it is not possible to reply to the last part of the question.

Will the Minister say if there is any objection to the publication of these figures?

No; I presume they will be published now.

Will the Minister say whether it is intended in the future to give the usual, normal publication with regard to agricultural exports, at any rate?

I think the Minister for Industry and Commerce already made that announcement—that the figures would be published in the future.
