Vol. 95 No. 11

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Manitoba Seed Wheat.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (a) the quantity of Manitoba wheat sold to farmers for seed in the 1943-1944 season; (b) the average yield per statute acre; and (c) whether, in view of the losses suffered by those farmers who planted Manitoba seed wheat and got little or no return, he is prepared to give to them good spring seed wheat free for this season.

The information available as to the total quantity of Manitoba seed wheat purchased by seed merchants last spring and the quantity returned by them as unsold indicates that approximately 28,000 barrels were sold to farmers for seed. As I have no record of the farmers who purchased the seed or of the yield which each obtained, I cannot state the average yield per statute acre, but as regards (b) and (c) in the Deputy's question, I would refer him to my reply to Deputy Hughes's question of similar trend on 18th October last.
