Vol. 95 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Fertilisers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if it is possible to make available to farmers an increased quantity of artificial fertilisers in the coming season.

I would refer the Deputy to the provisions of the Emergency Powers (Distribution of Artificial Fertilisers) (No. 2) Order, 1944, under which the quantity of 30 per cent. superphosphate which established customers may purchase during the 1945 season is one and a half times the quantity which such customers lawfully obtained during the 1944 season. 30 per cent. superphosphate is the only artificial fertiliser available for general farm use. The making of the Order was announced in the daily papers of the 14th December, 1944.

Apart from phosphates, is it not possible to make available additional supplies of nitrogenous manures?

They will be made available in a compound for beet growers and root-seed growers.

Will not the 5,000 tons of nitrate of ammonia be available as a single manure?

Certain nitrogenous manures will be available.
