Vol. 95 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seed Potato Supply.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the very serious failure in the potato crop in many of the poorer districts in Cavan and elsewhere in the past season; and if he will state what steps he has taken or proposes to take to ensure that an adequate supply of healthy seed at a reasonable price will be available for these districts for the coming spring.

The reports received by my Department do not bear out the Deputy's description of the position in County Cavan. The yields of the potato crop in the county, although not up to the previous year's average, are reported to be on the whole reasonably good. From information at present available, there is no reason to suppose that supplies of seed potatoes will be short of requirements in the coming spring.
