Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Licensing Bill Exemption Orders.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the number of exemption orders under the Licensing Bill granted for Sunday trading during the 12 months ended 30th September, 1944, and the number of prosecutions, if any, arising from these exemptions; and further if he will state the number of prosecutions during the year ended 30th September, 1944, arising out of public-houses being opened on Catholic holidays.

Area exemption orders under Section 16 of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1927, were granted for 151 occasions during the year ended on the 30th September, 1944. There were 25 prosecutions for drunkenness on those occasions.

There were 215 prosecutions for drunkenness on Catholic holidays during the year ended on the 30th of September, 1944.
