Vol. 95 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aliens Registered in Éire.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state (a) the number of aliens who registered in Éire since September, 1939; (b) the number of these who have since then engaged in business trading or agriculture; (c) the number engaged in such business, trade, industry or agriculture under their own names as in the original registration, and (d) how many so engaged have for the purpose assumed names of Irish origin or otherwise.

Mr. Boland

The number of aliens who registered under the Aliens Orders since the 1st of September, 1939, and who are still resident in this country is 479. Of these 55 had been resident here before the 1st September, 1939, but were not liable to registration before that date as they had not reached the age of 16 years. 123 are citizens of the United States of America and the majority of those are of Irish birth or descent. Apart from citizens of the U.S.A. who are of Irish birth or descent, ten of the aliens are engaged in business, trade or agriculture otherwise than as employees. Six of these carry on business under their own names and four carry on business under trade names.
