Vol. 95 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Auxiliary Postman's Retirement.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that the auxiliary postman in Ballymacelligott district, Tralee, was due to retire some weeks ago, and that a married man signing for unemployment assistance at the Employment Exchange, Tralee, who made application for the position, was notified to take up duty; and, if so, if he will state why the former's retirement was cancelled.

It is the case that an auxiliary postman at Ballymacelligott (Tralee) was due to retire some weeks ago, but an examination of his domestic circumstances indicated that severe hardship would arise if he were deprived of his Post Office employment. It was decided, therefore, to retain his services for the present.

Will the Minister state whether a man drawing unemployment assistance at the exchange was notified to take up the position, and that the son of the auxiliary postman was also interested in the job? Will he say who in his Department sent a wire cancelling the job, because I believe that the son is not getting it?

The only answer I can give is the answer as I have stated it.
