Vol. 95 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - District Court Clerks.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that in certain parts of the country the work of District Court clerks is being performed by Gárda officers or retired Gárda officers; and, if so, if he considers that this practice is in the public interest.

The local Gárda sergeant usually acts as District Court clerk during the period which a vacancy in that office is being filled or when the clerk is ill. The arrangement is one of old standing and appears to be generally accepted as convenient. I do not see any better alternative.
