Vol. 95 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Culm for Lime Burners.

asked the Minister for Supplies whether he will assist lime burners in Carrickmacross area to get supplies of culm, as there is a great scarcity of lime and fuel for lime burning in this area.

Lime burners in the Carrickmacross area receive the same permit facilities to obtain culm for lime burning as those given to lime burners in other areas. The procuring of the permitted quantities is a matter for arrangement between the permit holders and their fuel merchants.

No complaint has been made to my Department either by the lime burners of Carrickmacross or their fuel suppliers that difficulty is being experienced in obtaining culm. I should say that lime burners in the area get the same facilities as those in other areas.

If a group of these lime-burners makes representations to the Minister, will he assist them by putting them in touch with a source of supply?

If the lime-burners are not getting their supplies and are willing to use what every other lime-burner is using, namely, Irish culm, they can get a supply.

They are most anxious to use Irish culm but in this particular case they say they have no culm on hand and find themselves in a difficulty. If a group makes representations to the Minister, will he direct them to where they may find a supply?

I have seen no complaints as yet.

If you do, will you give them assistance?

I will give them all the advice they require.

That is all they want.
