Vol. 95 No. 17

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilkenny Bodies and Local Elections.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether, in the event of local elections being held this year, elections will be held for (a) the Corporation of Kilkenny and (b) the Callan Town Commissioners.

The election of members of the Kilkenny Borough Council is due to be held this year. No further election of Callan Town Commissioners will be held as the commissioners were dissolved under Section 74 of the Local Government Act, 1925, and their powers and duties have been permanently transferred to Kilkenny County Council. When the town commissioners were in existence the ratepayers took no interest in their work and it was difficult at times to secure a quorum for meetings.
