asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state (a) what is the present position of the Road Fund; (b) how much has been collected over the past ten years; (c) how much has been expended on roads from the fund, and (d) how much has been taken from the fund for the relief of the Exchequer.

Following is the statement:—(a) Cash on hands at 31-3-1944, £583,244. This is the last audited period. (b) £9,498,000 for ten years to 31-3-1944. (c) £7,853,768 for ten years to 31-3-1944, including £1,942,850 in repayment of advances from the Exchequer to the fund to finance road works. (d) £800,000 for ten years to 31-3-1944, but in the same period a sum of £4,069,000 was paid by way of grants from the Employment Schemes Votes in respect of road works.
