Vol. 95 No. 17

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Small Hydro-Electric Undertakings.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that in certain remote areas, which the amenities of the new rural electrification schemes are never likely to reach, certain small farmers and village dwellers have come together and successfully inaugurated small hydro-electric undertakings for the lighting of their homes and public buildings on a co-operative non-profit basis; and, if so, if he will favourably consider including such small undertakings in his farm improvement schemes, with a view to giving a part towards their initial cost, and so encourage the promotion of such useful community services.

I would not regard the undertakings referred to in the question as suitable for inclusion in the farm improvements scheme.
