Vol. 96 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Uneconomic Holders in County Sligo.

asked the Minister for Lands if he has been approached in the matter of acquiring land in the Corshallagh-Sessuecommons and Ballyara (Knox) area of Sligo for division among local uneconomic holders; whether he is aware that there are at least three substantial farms in the area where little or no tillage is being done and that small farmers and labourers have to pay excessive prices for conacre; and whether in these circumstances, he will consider taking over the holdings in question and dividing them among these uneconomic holders.

Representations have been made to the Land Commission urging the acquisition of a number of farms in the Corshallagh-Sessuecommons area. There are no proceedings pending for the acquisition of any of these lands, and owing to the emergency conditions the Land Commission are not in a position at present to take any action in the matter.
