Vol. 96 No. 7

Written Answers. - Supplies of Cooking Fats and Oils.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that, as a result of the shortage of cooking fats and oils in Dublin, several fish and chip restaurants have been compelled to close their premises for three nights per week; and, if so, if he will cause inquiries to be made with a view to increasing their supplies.

There has been a shortage of cooking fats in Dublin for some considerable time and it has been felt by the rest of the community as well as by the fish friers. So far as I am aware, the fish friers are getting as much cooking fat as they have been for some time past. They receive all the fats which can be made available to them from the Irish Oil and Cake Mills, Drogheda, and there is no other source from which I can arrange to procure supplies for them. In fact, the quantity made available from the mills since the last week of January is substantially greater than the average monthly quantity previously available.
