Vol. 96 No. 20

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport Facilities for Lobinstown (Meath).

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the inconvenience and hardship caused to residents of Lobinstown and district, County Meath, because of the total lack of bus or other transport service to or from the city; and, if so, if he will grant the necessary authority to the Great Northern Railway Company to provide a service on this route.

The Great Northern Railway Company are operating the maximum mileage possible on supplies available to them and a passenger service to Lobinstown could only be provided by a corresponding reduction in services elsewhere.

I am aware that the Great Northern Railway Company are prepared to take in this bus route if the Minister will grant the necessary facilities. It is a great inconvenience for these people. Nothing has been done for them, although over a long period they have made numerous applications to the Minister. I think it is most unfair.

I have no doubt the Great Northern Railway Company could give a service if they were given increased supplies, but those supplies cannot be given.

My county is flooded with petrol—waste petrol—and there is no reason why they should not get it.
