Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Service Bonus.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount of the extra charge on State funds which would have been involved by the payment from 1940 up to 31st March last of the Civil Service bonus if such bonus had not been stabilised in 1940.

The payment of Civil Service cost-of-living bonus from 1st July, 1940, to the 31st March, 1945, at the rates which would have applied if stabilisation had not been introduced as on and from the 1st July, 1940, by the Civil Service (Stabilisation of Bonus) Regulations, 1940, would have involved an additional charge on the Exchequer estimated at about £4,900,000.
