Vol. 97 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Demobilisation of the Army.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is now in a position to indicate the proposals for the payment of gratuities or allowances to persons who may be demobilised from the Army; and if any consideration has been given to the question of providing schemes for the resettlement in civilian life of persons discharged from the Army; and, if so, if he will indicate the nature of the schemes contemplated.

A White Paper dealing with the matters to which the Deputy refers is at the moment being prepared for printing, and will be made available shortly to both Houses of the Oireachtas.

Will the proposals include the provisions referred to in the last portion of the question?

The Deputy will have to wait and see.

We are becoming very Asquithian in this House.

Do I understand from the Minister that we shall get an opportunity of discussing the proposals here?

If any Deputy desires a discussion, I am sure an opportunity will be afforded.
