asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that such a severe shortage of pollard and bran exists in County Laoighis that the farmers are unable to procure them for their live stock; and, if so, if he will consider retaining what is manufactured in the area for the local people who need it.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Pollard and Bran in Laoighis.
As I have already indicated in my replies to questions by Deputy Beirne on 31st January and by Deputy O'Donnell on 11th April, there is, in present circumstances, a general shortage of bran and pollard. Any attempt to relieve the shortage in a particular area would have to be at the expense of other areas and I do not, therefore, propose to alter the existing arrangements which provide as equitable a distribution of wheaten offals as can reasonably be afforded.
Is the output from the mill confined to a particular area?
No.
Is the Minister aware that the output from some mills is transferred to other areas?
The millers were asked to give as equal a distribution as possible to customers whom they were supplying when orders could be fully met.
They are not doing that.
Yes, they are.
