Vol. 97 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pooling of Tractor Parts.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that some agricultural tractors were laid up for a considerable time during the most vital period of the spring work awaiting spare parts from the manufacturers' agents and that much valuable time could have been saved had a system of pooling spare parts been in operation; and, if so, if he will now consider pooling spare parts until such time as an adequate supply of such essentials is again available.

No complaints have been made to me recently that tractors have been laid up for considerable periods awaiting spare parts. I am, however, aware that the supplies of tractor spares available to this country have been far below requirements.

There is no official control over the distribution of these spare parts, but I have no reason to believe that they are not being distributed to the best advantage by the various importers concerned, and I do not, therefore, deem it necessary to introduce any such scheme as that suggested by the Deputy.
