Vol. 97 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tyres and Tubes for Public Services.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will give special consideration to the claims for tyres and tubes of those engaged in tuberculosis, public health and school inspection services.

If the Deputy is referring to tyres and tubes for motor cars used by those engaged in the services mentioned I would refer him to replies I gave in the Dáil on 23rd February, 1944, and 21st March, 1945, to previous questions regarding tyre supplies.

The Irish Dunlop Company have available from time to time limited supplies of inner tubes for light motor vehicles and are authorised to supply these for vehicles engaged on essential services where it is established that the existing tubes cannot be repaired.

If the Deputy has in mind cycle tyres and tubes I would refer him to my replies of 31st January and 3rd May, 1945, and on earlier dates, to previous questions regarding the distribution of these articles. As indicated in those replies, it would be quite impracticable to differentiate between the many and varied classes of persons requiring bicycles for essential purposes or to give preference in the distribution of tyres and tubes to any particular class.
