Vol. 97 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supplies of Vaccines.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what steps, if any, have been taken to produce our own requirements of Louping III vaccine and Swine Erysipelas vaccine; and if, in the absence of home-produced vaccine, he will take immediate steps to import supplies from outside sources.

Facilities are not at present available to enable Louping Ill vaccine to be produced in this country. As soon as these facilities can be provided, the production of this vaccine will be undertaken. Efforts are at present being made to secure supplies from outside sources.

The present demand in this country for Swine Erysipelas vaccine would not warrant its production here. Arrangements have been made to enable this vaccine to be imported whenever needed, and supplies are obtainable by veterinary surgeons through certain wholesale chemists in Dublin.

My information is that veterinary surgeons cannot get supplies. Is that true or not?

Of which vaccine?

Louping Ill.

It was difficult to get supplies of Louping up to the present. We are hoping to get some soon. The other one, of course, is not required at the moment.
