Vol. 97 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civilian Head Waiter's Claim.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that Mr. Patrick Hurley, of New Street, Bantry, County Cork, was employed as civilian head waiter at the Officers' Mess, Collins Barracks, Cork, from the 1st March, 1943, to the 22nd April, 1944; that, in April, 1943, a bonus award of 6/6 per week was made to all men in such occupation in the Defence Forces but Mr. Hurley was paid this bonus only from 28th March, 1944, to the 22nd April, 1944, thus leaving a balance of £18 1s. 6d. due to him in respect of the period from 1st March, 1943, to the 28th March, 1944, and that despite repeated applications this sum is still unpaid; and, if so, if he will indicate what action he intends to take to expedite the discharge of the liability.

Mr. Patrick Hurley, of New Street, Bantry, County Cork, was employed as a civilian waiter at the Officers' Mess, Collins Barracks, Cork, from the 1st March, 1943, to the 22nd April, 1944. A bonus award of 6/6 a week was not made in April, 1943, to all men in such occupation in the Defence Forces, but an increase in pay of 6/6 a week was granted to civilian waiters at the Curragh Camp and Collins Barracks, Cork, with effect from the 28th March, 1944, and Mr. Hurley's rate of pay was adjusted accordingly. No balance of pay, therefore, is due to Mr. Hurley in respect of the period from the 1st March, 1943, to the 28th March, 1944.
