Vol. 97 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Public Analysts.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the names and addresses of the public analysts for the following areas:— Munster, Leinster, Connacht and Ulster (Eire jurisdiction); and if he will state the amount received by such persons in the year 1944 from public or local authorities whether by way of salary, fees or emoluments.

Public analysts are not officers of the Minister for Local Government and Public Health but of the local authorities by whom they are appointed and to whom they are responsible for the discharge of their functions. It is not the duty of the Minister for Local Government and Public Health, at the public expense, to engage his officers in making inquiries of local authorities throughout the State, and in conducting correspondence with them, on behalf of a Deputy who, in common with all other members of the House, receives a generous allowance from the public purse to defray the expenses of such work for himself.

I would suggest to the Deputy, therefore, that he take up the subject matter of his question directly with the local authorities concerned. If they think he is entitled to it, I am sure they will give him the required information.
