Vol. 97 No. 12

Death of the President of the United States of America.—Acknowledgment of Resolution of Dáil Éireann.

I desire to acquaint the Dáil that the following letter has been received by the Clerk of the Dáil from the Secretary to the Department of External Affairs:—

"I have been instructed by the Minister for External Affairs to refer to the Ceann Comhairle's letter of the 13th April, and to inform you that the text of the resolution passed by Dáil Éireann on the occasion of the death of President Roosevelt was duly communicated through the Minister Plenipotentiary in Washington to the Government and Congress of the United States.

The Minister Plenipotentiary now informs us that the Government of the United States have expressed their deep appreciation of the action of Dáil Éireann in passing this resolution.

Mr. Brennan adds that the Speaker of the House of Representatives wishes to convey to Dáil Éireann his sincere appreciation of the expression of sympathy extended to the people of the United States and of the adjournment of Dáil Éireann as a tribute to the memory of the late President."

I shall have the letter entered in the Journal of the Dáil.
