Vol. 97 No. 21

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Councils' Period of Office.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will consider amending the law to provide that the period of office of county councils and urban councils shall be increased from three to five years.

A period of three years has been the normal term of office since county councils and urban councils were constituted and any proposal to alter the present position would require a great deal of consideration, which in view of urgent matters which are pressing for attention, cannot be given to it now.
