Vol. 98 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Soldiers' and Sailors' Land Trust.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the cause of the delay in making available to the public the report of the Shannon Commission of Inquiry into the position of tenants under the Soldiers' and Sailors' Land Trust; and if he will state further (a) the date on which the commission was appointed; (b) the date on which its report was submitted to his Department; and (c) the grounds on which publication of the report has been withheld from the public.

This matter has been in abeyance for some time. As indicated in reply to a similar question in the year 1942, certain discussions had been initiated and until these had been satisfactorily completed a decision in regard to the report of the Judge Shannon Committee of Inquiry was not likely to be taken. There has been no alteration in the position since. The commission was appointed on the 6th March, 1940, and its report was made on the 9th May, 1940.
