Vol. 98 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Employees' Pensions.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state if legislation dealing with pensions for workers employed by local authorities will be introduced this session.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is yet in a position to indicate when it is intended to introduce proposals for legislation to enable local authorities to provide pensions for such of their employees as are not now pensionable.

I propose to take questions Nos. 6 and 7 together. I have nothing to add at present to the reply I gave to Deputy Fogarty's question on the 11th July last. It became necessary to defer consideration of the Superannuation Bill until the preparation of the Local Government Bill and the Public Health Bill had been completed. The terms of the superannuation measure have not yet reached the stage at which it would be possible to give a definite date for introduction, but I hope to be in a position to make a statement on the matter before the end of the present session.
