Vol. 98 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seed Wheat.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state in relation to the seed wheat to be supplied by Pedigree Seed Growers, Limited, for the coming season (a) the estimated amount available distinguishing between varieties; (b) the amount paid to the producer of the seed this season; (c) the price proposed to be charged to the purchaser of such seed for next season; (d) whether he has approved of said price, and (e) the costings which justify such price.

As the reply contains a good deal of detail including a number of figures, I propose, with the Deputy's permission, to circulate it in the Official Report.

The following is the reply:—

(a) The total that will be available for the coming season will be approximately 42,550 barrels, made up as follows:—

Atle

25,000 barrels

Pajbjerg

2,000 barrels

Queen Wilhelmina

3,500 barrels

Red Marvel

350 barrels

Squarehead Master

100 barrels

(b) 60/- per barrel.

(c) Maximum prices chargeable carriage paid to any port, railway station, or canal depôt in the State are:—

In lots not less than

1,000 barrels

89/- per barrel

In lots not less than 250 barrels but less than 1,000 barrels

91/6 per barrel

In lots not less than 48 barrels but less than 250 barrels

92/6 per barrel

In lots not less than 8 barrels but less than 48 barrels

93/6 per barrel

In lots less than 8 barrels

96/- per barrel

(d) Yes.

(e) The costings under the headings:—Kiln drying and cleaning, loss in drying and cleaning, storage, transit charges, miscellaneous expensions, which, I am satisfied, leaves no more than a reasonable margin of profit.

Are all the Ministers on holiday, or have they all had a nervous breakdown?
