Vol. 98 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport of Wheat.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the shortage of railway wagons experienced by licensed wheat dealers in the transport of wheat from Thurles to Limerick; and, if so, if, in order to avoid the resultant congestion, deterioration and loss, he will ensure that steps are taken to provide a better service.

I understand that over 4,000 tons of grain have been loaded in Thurles in the five weeks ended 20th October, of which over half was consigned to Limerick. As I informed the Deputy in reply to a similar question yesterday, I am satisfied that the transport companies are giving the best service possible in the circumstances. The available wagons at the various centres are allocated in proportion to the requirements of consignors.
