Vol. 98 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dry Curing of Fish.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that quantities of fish now available off our southern coasts cannot be dealt with adequately for export as cured fish owing to the lack of barrels; and, if so, if he will take steps to initiate, through his Department, courses of instruction in the process of curing fish by the tank and drying system, and thus make the fish suitable for export or use at home as dried cured fish.

I am aware that at present fish barrels are in short supply. I am asking the directors of the Sea Fisheries' Association to furnish me with a report as to the practicability of preparing fish for export or home consumption as dried cured fish.
