Vol. 98 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Issue of Tractors and Binders.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the number of tractors issued by his Department to County Wexford, this year, and the names and addresses of those to whom they were given; the number of binders issued to the county, and the names and addresses of the receivers; and the number of applications received from County Wexford by his Department.

No tractors or reapers-and-binders have been issued by my Department up to date this year. Permits to purchase 38 tractors and 32 reapers-and-binders were issued to persons resident in County Wexford. The tractors were distributed by Messrs. Ford through the usual trade channels and the permits to purchase the reapers-and-binders were issued to the applicants who were recommended by the special local committee set up for the purpose of considering such applications. Thirty applications for tractors and 33 applications for reapers-and-binders reached my Department during 1945 from Wexford. These were either referred direct to the importers, or the applicants were advised to place orders with the importers of the machine required. Many similar applications were made to the local committee. The demand for these machines has been met reasonably well and I cannot see what useful purpose would be served by reading out a list of 70 names and addresses. I will, however, if the Deputy so wishes, post him the list.
