Vol. 98 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Revocation of Traders' Licences.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will now consider a review of the cases of traders whose licences were revoked during the emergency for minor breaches of or slight irregularities under the Emergency Price Control Orders; and whether he will consider that Christmas, 1945, would be an opportune time for a general amnesty in this respect.

No trader has had his licences revoked on the grounds that he was convicted in respect of minor breaches of, or slight irregularities under, the Emergency Powers Orders relating to the control of prices. The only licences revoked were those of traders who were convicted in respect of serious contraventions of the Emergency Powers Orders relating to rationing and price control, where the circumstances were considered to be such as to indicate the unfitness of these traders to be permitted to continue to trade in rationed commodities. It is not proposed to restore these licences.
