Vol. 98 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Limerick Hospital Need.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether, in view of the fact that persons residing in that part of the County Limerick formerly included in the area of jurisdiction of the Mitchelstown (No. 2) Rural District Council have to travel very long distances to Croom County Hospital, he will make the hospital at Fermoy a regional hospital, with power to accept, for treatment, patients from that portion of the former Mitchelstown (No. 2) Rural District Council area now included in the County Limerick.

The reorganisation of hospital services contemplated in the Cork and Limerick public assistance districts includes new regional hospitals at Cork and Limerick, and a county hospital at Mallow. Fermoy is not intended to be either a regional or a county hospital centre. No representations have been received in my Department from the Limerick County Council for facilities for the treatment of any County Limerick patients in Fermoy Hospital. I cannot, therefore, express any views regarding the latter part of the question.
