Vol. 99 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Return of Emigrants.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state whether he has received representations from the Irish Citizens' Union, Birmingham, regarding the difficulties and expense incurred by Irish citizens, returning from Great Britain to this country, in transferring their belongings to this country, arising out of the High Commissioner's Office in London not supplying certain necessary forms —C. & E. 104 A.—to these returning citizens unless they make personal application for said forms; and if he will say what steps he proposes to take to alleviate the hardships complained of.

The Deputy is not correct in suggesting that Irish citizens returning to this country are obliged to call personally for these forms at the High Commissioner's Office. The forms can be obtained on a written application.

Representations have been received from the Irish Citizens' Union, Birmingham, for a supply of the forms to be distributed by them. The matter has been considered, and, with the consent of the Revenue Commissioners, arrangements have been made to give a supply of the forms to the Irish Citizens' Union and to similar organisations in Great Britain.

I thank the Taoiseach for his favourable reply.
