Vol. 100 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Electricity.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, having regard to the forthcoming reduction announced in the price of gas, he is now in a position to state when the Electricity Supply Board propose to reduce the price of electric current to a more reasonable level.

Owing to the continued high level of costs it is not at present possible to give any indication as to when it may be practicable to effect a reduction in charges for electric current. The revenue resulting to the Electricity Supply Board from the present charges is not producing a surplus which could be used to reduce the charges.
