Vol. 100 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wexford—New Ross Road Service.

Mr. Corish

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that there is now no direct road passenger service available between Wexford and New Ross; that the absence of such service is causing great inconvenience and, in many cases, hardship to people affected; and whether, in the circumstances, he will take steps to ensure that Córas Iompair Éireann will restore this essential service at an early date.

Córas Iompair Éireann has never operated direct road passenger services between Wexford and New Ross but there is a daily passenger train service between these points. Owing to the difficulty of procuring vehicles and spare parts it is not yet possible for the company to restore many road services which were operated prior to the emergency or to introduce new services, such as the proposed service between Wexford and New Ross, for which there may be a demand.
