Vol. 100 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Tennis Shoes.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the shortage in supply of better quality tennis shoes; and if he will endeavour to make such shoes available.

I am aware that there is a shortage of better quality tennis shoes. This is because the type of canvas required for good quality tennis shoes is not being produced. Available supplies of yarn are being used for the production of canvas suitable for children's shoes. I consider this to be very desirable and I do not propose to have supplies of canvas for adults' tennis shoes made available at present as this could be done only at the expense of canvas for children's rubber-soled shoes.

Can the Minister say if he has tried to get these shoes from any outside source? I understand that shoes are available in Canada.

Some supplies have been imported.
