Vol. 100 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerosene Allocation.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether it is now possible to make available, to householders in rural areas where there are no other lighting facilities, sufficient kerosene for lighting purposes during the summer months.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether it is now possible to increase the paraffin oil ration, and thus lessen the hardships, particularly on children of school-going age who are mainly dependent upon paraffin oil and primus stoves to heat water for the preparation of breakfast before school, the slow heating properties of most of the turf supplied in many areas having been found most unsuitable for the purpose.

I propose to take questions Nos. 9 and 10 together.

Owing to the scarcity of paraffin oil, it was found necessary to discontinue the ration for domestic purposes as from the 31st March. The position has again been under examination with a view to seeing whether it would be possible to restore this ration, and I hope to be able to make an announcement shortly.
