Vol. 100 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Holdings.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that approximately 40 acres of land, the property of the late John Nolan, Belesker, Claremorris, County Mayo (More O'Ferrall estate), have been untenanted for over 20 years and if he will consider acquiring same to relieve congestion among local farmers whose land valuations range from 6s. to £5.

The Land Commission have no proceedings in hands for the resumption of the holding of John Nolan (deceased), in Belesker, Claremorris. The representations made by the Deputy will be considered.

I should like to remind the Minister that there is a possibility of this holding of land being put up for public auction in the near future, and I should like the Minister to make an attempt to acquire it.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will take steps to acquire the land, the property of Patrick Crowe, Lappallagh, Glenisland, Castlebar, containing approximately 517 acres, and redistribute it among the uneconomic land holders and landless men in the locality.

The Land Commission do not propose to take any action regarding the acquisition of the lands of Lappallagh owned by Mr. Patrick Crowe.

Might I remind the Minister that this is the farm which I mentioned some time ago, and in respect of which the Minister promised to give every consideration to the matter, if it were brought to his notice? Why has the decision been altered?

There has been no alteration. The land has been examined and has been found to be completely unsuitable for the relief of local congestion.
