Vol. 101 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hostel Accommodation for University Students.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware of the very great hardships imposed on students from rural areas attending the National University, Dublin, as a result of the lack of a proper hostel; and whether it is the intention of his Department to make arrangements, by way of a grant or otherwise, whereby suitable accommodation will be available for such students in the near future.

The provision of living accommodation for university students does not fall within the functions of my Department and recommendations relating thereto would be more properly addressed to the authorities of the university named in the question. In the circumstances I cannot undertake to make any arrangements such as the Deputy suggests.
