Vol. 101 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Deportations from Channel Islands.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he has received any reply to the representations made on behalf of Irish citizens who were deported from Channel Islands; and, if not, when he hopes to have information regarding the deportation of these citizens.

Of the five Irish citizens who were deported, only one has been in touch with the Department. Specific representations have been made in his case and we are at present awaiting the reply.

The other four citizens concerned have not communicated with the Department. Steps are being taken to locate them and to secure particulars from them and, when these are available, I will consider the question of making representations in their cases also.

Has the Taoiseach any hope of an early reply to his representations? Has he received any acknowledgment of the representations he has made in the case of the one citizen who has been in touch with his Department?

I can only say that I am awaiting a reply. I hope we will have that reply within a reasonable time.

That is good.
