Vol. 101 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Fertilisers.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of each of the years 1940 to 1945, inclusive, the percentage increase in the price of fertilisers related to an index figure of 100 at August, 1939.

For a considerable number of years, up to and including 1941, official index numbers of retail prices of fertilisers, to base 1930 == 100, were published annually in the Irish Trade Journal and Statistical Bulletin. Recalculated to base 1939 == 100, the index number is 133 for 1940 and 183 for 1941. Since after 1941 many types of fertilisers were no longer available or, if available, not produced to pre-war specification, it was not possible to continue this series of index numbers.
