Vol. 101 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol for Commercial Vehicles.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will increase the petrol allowance to owners of commercial vehicles whose supply of anthracite coal has been cut recently; or, alternatively, if he will state what action he proposes to take to enable such people to continue their business uninterruptedly.

I assume the Deputy's question refers to commercial goods vehicles fitted with gas producer plants. Petrol allowances are made available for these vehicles at the rates which apply to vehicles not fitted with producer plants. It is not proposed to make extra petrol available in lieu of anthracite but I am prepared to consider on their merits individual applications for additional anthracite for gas-producer vehicles in cases where the reduction in anthracite supplies has created hardship.
